The Sentinel is the signature gin of Okavango Gin – Botswana’s first fully-fledged distillery, proudly solar-powered and nestled on the edge of the iconic Okavango Delta. Named after the ever-watchful baboon perched atop a termite mound, it symbolises protection, harmony, and connection to the land.

Distilled using a traditional copper pot still that overlooks the Tsutsubega floodplain, The Sentinel is infused with pure Okavango Delta water and the earthy essence of Mopane seed, a locally harvested botanical that gives this gin its distinct African identity. The result is a contemporary gin with bold character: pure, dry, rustic, and deeply rooted in place.

The gin made its debut in 2020 and quickly gained global attention. In 2022, it was awarded Africa’s only Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. In 2023, Okavango Gin went on to win Best Distillery and a Gold Medal at the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards.

But beyond the accolades, The Sentinel is an experience. It’s the ritual of a sundowner in the Botswanan wilderness. It’s the stillness of the Delta at dusk, the clink of ice, the crispness of citrus, and the moment of reflection as the sun fades. This tradition is captured in the brand’s tagline:
