Taste the Wild – A Gin Crafted by Nature, Inspired by Giants
Indlovu Gin, proudly produced by IBHU, is not your average spirit. This award-winning gin is crafted using botanicals foraged and digested by elephants, resulting in a one-of-a-kind flavour experience. The name Indlovu, meaning “elephant” in several African languages, reflects the deep connection between the gin and the majestic animals that help shape it.
The story behind Indlovu Gin begins with founders Les and Paula Ansley, a South African couple who returned home after 15 years in the UK. Inspired by a safari in Kenya, Paula discovered that elephants digest only a small portion of what they eat, leaving behind rich botanical matter. This sparked the wild idea: could gin be crafted from elephant dung?
After countless experiments and distillation trials, the answer was yes—and Indlovu Gin was born.
Each bottle of Indlovu Gin captures the spirit of Africa’s wilderness. The elephants’ natural foraging habits determine the mix of botanicals—resulting in a smooth, earthy, and subtly floral gin with hints of juniper and citrus. No two batches are the same, making every sip a unique adventure.
Indlovu Gin doesn’t just deliver on flavour—it stands for something greater. As a Proudly South African brand, it upholds high standards of quality, sustainability, and fair labour. Even more inspiring: 15% of profits are donated to HERD (Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development Trust), the country’s first elephant orphanage.
