Born during the quiet of the pandemic, Habitat Distillery is Dubrovnik’s first and only distillery. Founded by five friends with a shared vision, it’s located in the city’s industrial quarter of Knežica. Here, the team crafts premium spirits using cutting-edge distillation technology and high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. The distillery is the beating heart of our brand, where every bottle of gin begins its journey.
Our first product, Habitat Dubrovnik Gin Expression, captures the essence of the region in every sip. The carefully selected ingredients reflect the diverse and aromatic landscape of southern Croatia, making every sip a journey through its flora and coastline.
With the unique blend of botanicals, including sage, rosemary, and immortelle, all locally sourced, we’re ensuring freshness and authenticity. These herbs are macerated with handpicked juniper berries, which undergo rigorous testing to ensure only the finest quality makes it into each batch. Complementing this botanical symphony are vibrant oranges and lemons from the Dubrovnik region, adding refreshing citrus notes that elevate the gin’s profile. To set Habitat apart, we’ve replaced the traditional angelica root with the root of perunicum, Croatia’s national flower, which imparts a delicate floral sweetness, enriching the gin with a distinctive and unforgettable character.
The craftsmanship that defines Habitat extends far beyond the gin itself. Every element of the bottle tells a story, beginning with the handcrafted design by the local artist Morana Depoli. The label, a masterpiece by the renowned Dubrovnik painter Pino Trostmann, mirrors the landscape of Dubrovnik, with its colors and textures evoking the aromas found in each pour. The result is a harmonious blend of artistry and distillation.
In the tasting experience, the gin greets the palate with bright freshness of citrus and a bouquet of Mediterranean botanicals, followed by a floral undertone that lingers delicately. The long-lasting citrus aftertaste leaves an impression of warmth and sun-soaked afternoons on the Adriatic coast, making Dubrovnik Gin Expression a true celebration of its roots.
The Habitat Concept Store in Dubrovnik is where all our experiences come to life. It’s a thoughtfully curated space where visitors can step into the world of gin, craft, and creativity. Here, guests can take part in hands-on workshops: from gin blending and cocktail mixing to natural soap making. It’s also a place where guests can buy various products by local artisans and Habitat. The Concept Store brings together local materials and people, global techniques, and a community-driven spirit in one inspiring setting.
At Habitat Distillery, we design immersive workshops for curious minds and creative souls. Whether you’re becoming a master distiller in our Gin Experience, learning the art of cocktail creation in the Mixology Experience, or crafting artisanal soaps in our Natural Soap Making Experience, each session is led by passionate experts and tailored for all skill levels.
