Founded during the pandemic by five friends with a shared vision, Habitat Distillery is the first and only distillery in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Combining innovative distillation techniques, locally sourced botanicals and creative experiences, Habitat has grown into much more than a distillery. It is a destination where craftsmanship, creativity and Croatian heritage come together.
Located in the industrial district of Knežica, Habitat Distillery was established with the goal of creating premium spirits that reflect the character of southern Croatia. Using modern distillation technology and carefully selected local ingredients, the team produces handcrafted spirits that celebrate the region’s natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
As Dubrovnik’s first distillery, Habitat has quickly become a unique addition to the city’s growing craft beverage scene.
The distillery’s flagship product, Habitat Dubrovnik Gin Expression, captures the aromas and flavours of the Adriatic coast. Locally sourced botanicals such as sage, rosemary and immortelle reflect the Mediterranean landscape that surrounds Dubrovnik.
Fresh oranges and lemons from the region contribute vibrant citrus notes, while carefully selected juniper berries provide the classic gin foundation. To create a truly distinctive spirit, Habitat replaces traditional angelica root with the root of perunika, Croatia’s national flower, adding subtle floral complexity and a unique local identity.
Habitat believes that every bottle should tell a story. This philosophy extends beyond distillation and into the design of the product itself.
The bottle was created by local artist Morana Depoli, while the label artwork was designed by renowned Dubrovnik painter Pino Trostmann. Together, these artistic elements reflect the colours, landscapes and atmosphere of Dubrovnik, creating a visual identity that complements the spirit inside the bottle.
The Habitat Concept Store serves as the public face of the brand and offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of craft spirits and local creativity.
Guests can discover Habitat products, explore items created by local artisans and participate in a variety of hands-on workshops. The store combines craftsmanship, education and community, creating an inspiring space for both visitors and locals.
Habitat Distillery extends far beyond traditional spirit production. Through interactive gin-making workshops, cocktail experiences and natural soap-making sessions, visitors can learn new skills while exploring the ingredients and traditions that define the region.
For those unable to visit Dubrovnik, Habitat also offers mobile pop-up experiences for private events and corporate gatherings. These interactive workshops bring the distillery experience directly to participants, allowing them to create their own blends while discovering the flavours of Croatia.
